The Hair Growth Cycle

Anagen Phase

Follicle regeneration period, hair grows for 2-7 years

Catagen Phase

Approximately a 2 week period in which the follicle rest, the dermal papillae stop production of new cells

Telogen Phase

Hair follicle rest for about 4 months waiting for new anagen phase to begin.

Normal hair follicles undergo these periods of growth. Hair sheds; hair may shed at any stage in the cycle, although most of the shedding will occur during the new anagen phase.
